Alan
Fletcher
President
Alan is the president of AFC Ltd., a highly reputable Comox Valley company
providing Project Management, Construction Management and General Contracting
services.
AFC has grown to 45 employees and completes approximately $10 million
annually in construction costs, including commercial, multi-family residential,
and custom residential projects.
As a ticketed Carpenter and Joiner/Cabinet Maker with 30 years in the construction
industry, Alan takes pride in balancing project costing with quality construction
and creative design.
He has owned and operated successful construction companies in
Victoria (Pacific Wind Construction) and Courtenay/Comox over the past 20 years, specializing in the construction
of custom homes as well as multi-family and commercial projects.
Numerous building
awards and featured magazine articles can be attributed to “Innovative
construction solutions and creative results that stand the test of time”.
Alan is proud of having a strong team of experienced carpenters, subcontractors
and employees and plans on expanding his services in the Comox Valley and Vancouver
Island.
Guthrie
LeFevre
Project Coordinator
Guthrie
comes to AFC with a broad background in property development, management and
construction as he has spent the past 10 years working on various projects
on Vancouver Island.
He has been involved in many projects from the conceptual
stage through to the completion of construction.
During this time Guthrie has
developed management skills that are very versatile and adaptable to suit the
diversity of each project. He is experienced in land use planning and approval
process, land servicing, building design, and construction.
Kirstin
Humpherys
Office Manager and Comptroller
Kirstin
has over 30 years experience in office management and bookkeeping in the construction
industry, including residential and commercial contractors and architects.
Her work experience is diverse and includes management and financial controlling
for cooperatives, non-profits and for profit companies.
Her Masters Degree
in Organizational Development has sharpened her skills in project management,
human resources management and communication. Her experience and skills ensure
that AFC provides a professional and responsible service to our clients.
Dave
Nelson
Forman/Safety Officer
Dave
brings a diverse skill set to AFC. He began his construction experience in
1988 in Sooke with an apprenticeship with a Swiss born carpenter, receiving
his journeyman carpentry papers.
After moving to the Comox Valley he worked
steadily with several companies. This work includes hospitals, schools, water
towers, bridges, commercial retail outlets, aquatic centers, treatment plants,
and a cedar long house on the West Coast.
Dave also holds his Level Three First
Aid ticket and is in charge of safety for AFC.
John
Gardam
Forman
John
was born in the Far East and grew up in the Comox Valley. After graduating
from a BCIT course in forestry/fish/wildlife recreation technology, John worked
for D.F.O. for 3 years at the Pacific Biological Station under Dr. Gordon Hartman.
After returning to the Valley in 1989 John pursued his interest in woodworking
and started building full time. He has built over 20 fine residences and worked
on many commercial projects, including the Island Co-generation Plant in Campbell
River, the Courtenay Aquatic Centre and the Norske Skagg Pulp Mill.
John's
devotion to professionalism and attention to detail ensures that the buildings
he works on will last and have distinction. He is an avid soccer player, skier,
boat and water enthusiast and devoted family man.

Lane
Shop Forman
John has been making cabinets for over 30 years. He immigrated to Cape Breton Island from the United States and started and co-operated a cabinet shop.
After 15 years he moved to Vancouver where he worked for VanArch Millwork specialising in high-end commercial and residential cabinetry. He worked there for 13 years and was shop foreman for the last seven.
In 2006 John and his family moved to Denman Island and he started working for AFC, where he now runs the new millwork shop.
In his spare time he completed 10 years of post-secondary education which included minors in Fine Arts, Vocal Music and Russian Literature. Currently he is a doctor candidate in English Literature.
Maaike Pen
Estimator
Maaike is an Industrial Design Engineer with over 10 years of experience working in project and operations management in the Renewable Energy, HVAC and Green Building industry in BC and the Netherlands.
She has primarily worked for innovative companies active in the forefront of their markets. She has operated a medium sized company and managed many projects with budgets varying in size and complexity. Maaike now applies her broad background to estimating building projects for AFC.
Looking to improve her quality of life Maaike immigrated to the Comox Valley 6 years ago, she is an active member of the community, a passionate sailor and an avid skier.
